Al-Nasāʾī also declared him trustworthy, as did Ibn Ḥibbān (6/196). Al-Mundhirī said in al-Targhīb (2/277–278): “It was reported by Abū Yaʿlā and al-Bazzār, and both their chains are sound.” Al-Haythamī said in al-Majmaʿ (3/85): “It was reported by Abū Yaʿlā in al-Kabīr and by al-Bazzār, and all their narrators are trustworthy.”
I say: By his reference to al-Kabīr, he indicated that Abū Yaʿlā had two Musnads: a large one and a small one. The “small” one is the collection known today, which is now being printed in Damascus; more than ten volumes of it have been issued (1). The Musnad of ʿUmar appears in its first volume, but this hadith is not found there. It seems that Shaykh al-Aʿẓamī, in his annotations to al-Bazzār, was unaware of the Musnad al-Kabīr, as is indicated by his remark after al-Haythamī’s preceding statement, “...in al-Kabīr.” Al-Aʿẓamī said: “(Sic)!”
2866 — “There is nothing that brings you nearer to Paradise but that I have commanded you to do it, and there is nothing that brings you nearer to the Fire but that I have forbidden you from it. The Holy Spirit inspired my heart: no soul will die until it has received its full provision. So fear Allah, and seek provision in a proper manner. Let not the delay of provision drive you to seek it through disobedience to Allah, for what is with Allah can only be attained through obedience to Him.”
It was reported by Abū Bakr al-Ḥaddād in al-Muntakhab min Fawāʾid Ibn ʿUlwah al-Qaṭṭān (168/1).
