off to the left. I shall then appeal to the Lord of the worlds concerning you and say, ‘O Lord, my community!’ It will be said, ‘You do not know what they introduced after you; they kept retreating backward after you.’ Let me not find any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection carrying a sheep bleating and calling, ‘O Muhammad, O Muhammad!’ and I shall say, ‘I can avail you nothing against Allah; I have conveyed [the message].’ Let me not find any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection carrying a camel groaning and calling, ‘O Muhammad, O Muhammad!’ and I shall say, ‘I can avail you nothing against Allah; I have conveyed [the message].’ Let me not find any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection carrying a horse neighing and calling, ‘O Muhammad, O Muhammad!’ and I shall say, ‘I can avail you nothing against Allah; I have conveyed [the message].’ Let me not find any of you coming on the Day of Resurrection carrying a load of leather hides and calling, ‘O Muhammad, O Muhammad!’ and I shall say, ‘I can avail you nothing against Allah; I have conveyed [the message].’”
Al-Bazzār (1/426/900) and al-Rāmahurmuzī in al-Amthāl (21–22) reported it by two routes from Mālik ibn Ismāʿīl, who said: Yaʿqūb ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Qummī narrated to us from Ḥafṣ ibn Ḥumayd, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb—may Allah be pleased with them—who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it. I say: This is a good chain of transmission. Al-Bazzār said afterward: “We know of no report from ʿUmar except through this chain, and we know of no one besides al-Qummī who narrated from Ḥafṣ.” I say: Ashʿath ibn Isḥāq also narrated from him, as recorded in al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl (1/2/171). It is also reported from Ibn Maʿīn that he said of him: “Acceptable.”
