He is further corroborated by Abū Saʿīd, the freedman of Banū Hāshim—a trustworthy narrator counted among al-Bukhārī’s transmitters—who said, “ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar al-Makhramī narrated it to us,” but he omitted the middle clause, “and the breaking of the fast is on the day when you all break the fast.” Al-Bayhaqī recorded this version in his Sunan (4/252).

The ḥadīth has yet another chain from Abū Hurayrah. Ibn Mājah (1/509) said: “Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Muqrīʾ narrated to us; Isḥāq ibn ʿĪsā narrated to us; Ḥammād ibn Zayd, from Ayyūb, from Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn, from Abū Hurayrah,” likewise omitting the first clause.

All the men in this isnād are trustworthy except Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Muqrīʾ, who is unknown, as stated in al-Taqrīb. In my view he slipped when he named “Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn”; the correct reading is “Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir.” That is how al-ʿAbbās ibn Muḥammad ibn Hārūn and ʿAlī ibn Sahl narrated it, both saying: “Isḥāq ibn ʿĪsā al-Ṭabbāʿ informed us, from Ḥammād ibn Zayd, from Ayyūb, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Abū Hurayrah,” with the same wording. Al-Dāraquṭnī recorded this in his Sunan (257–258).

A similar report comes from Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd—known as Ibn Ḥisāb, a trustworthy narrator cited by Muslim—who transmitted it from Ḥammād ibn Zayd. Abū Dāwūd (1/366) wrote: “Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us,” presenting the same text.

The narration was also related by Rūḥ ibn al-Qāsim, ʿAbd al-Wārith, and Maʿmar, all from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir. Al-Dāraquṭnī and Abū ʿAlī al-Harawī quoted Rūḥ’s version in al-Awwal min al-Thānī min al-Fawāʾid (fol. 20/1). Al-Bayhaqī transmitted the version of ʿAbd al-Wārith, while al-Harawī cited that of Maʿmar, coupling it with Rūḥ’s; both were conveyed from them by Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ. In Maʿmar’s isnād, however, Yaḥyā ibn al-Yamān diverged and said: “from Maʿmar, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said …”—again omitting the first clause. Al-Tirmidhī (2/71) and al-Dāraquṭnī (258) both recorded this variant.
