It was also narrated by al-Bazzar (1308) and al-Tabarani in al-Muʿjam al-Saghir. I have discussed it in al-Rawd al-Nadir (no. 937).
It also has a corroborating report from Aisha, narrated by Ahmad (6/268) and al-Uqayli in al-Duʿafaʾ (432), through Marja ibn Rajaʾ, from Hisham ibn Urwah, from his father, from her. He said: “Marja ibn Yahya: Ibn Maʿin said, ‘Weak.’ This is narrated through a chain other than this one, by way of Salih.”
I say: He is referring to Ahmad’s narration in al-Musnad (6/268–269): Yaʿqub narrated to us; he said: My father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Hisham ibn Urwah narrated to me, from his father, from Aisha, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, bought from a Bedouin a camel—or camels—for a wasq of al-Dhakhirah dates, an ajwah variety. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, returned with him to his house and looked for the dates for him, but could not find them. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, went out to him and said: ‘O Abdullah, we bought from you a camel—or camels—for a wasq of al-Dhakhirah dates. We looked for them but could not find them.’
“The Bedouin exclaimed, ‘What treachery!’ Aisha said: The people rebuked him, saying, ‘May Allah destroy you! Would the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, act treacherously?’ But the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘Leave him alone, for the one who has a right is entitled to speak.’ The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, repeated this two or three times. When he saw that the man did not understand him, he said to one of his Companions: ‘Go to Khawlah bint Hakim ibn Umayyah and say to her: The Messenger says to you: If you have a wasq of al-Dhakhirah dates, advance it to us as a loan until we repay you, if Allah wills...’
