Its chain is authentic according to Muslim’s criterion. Ibn ʿAbbās’s report is also found in his collection, though in abridged form with the wording: “He granted him a concession to kiss, to engage in mubāsharah (skin-to-skin intimacy short of intercourse), and to place the hand so long as that did not lead him to anything further.” Its chain is authentic according to al-Bukhārī’s criterion.
Ibn Abī Shaybah (2/170/1) likewise narrated—through ʿAmr ibn Hurm—that Jābir ibn Zayd was asked about a man who looked at his wife during Ramaḍān and, aroused by desire for her, ejaculated. Does that break his fast? He replied, “No; he should complete his fast.”
Ibn Khuzaymah entitled the report: “Chapter: The concession for the fasting person to engage in mubāsharah that is short of intercourse, and the proof that a single term may refer to two actions, one permitted and the other forbidden.”
222 – “Whoever spits while facing the qiblah will come on the Day of Resurrection with his spittle between his eyes.”
It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (3/425 – ʿAwn) and by Ibn Ḥibbān in his Ṣaḥīḥ (332) through the route of Ibn Khuzaymah—from Jarīr, from Abū Isḥāq al-Shaybānī, from ʿAdī ibn Thābit, from Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh, from Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān—attributed to the Prophet.
I say: This chain is authentic; all its transmitters are trustworthy and belong to the two Shaykhs, except Zirr, who is exclusively a narrator for Muslim. Jarīr is Jarīr ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd al-Ḍabbī al-Kūfī, and Abū Isḥāq is Sulaymān ibn Abī Sulaymān al-Kūfī.
The ḥadith also has a supporting narration with the wording:
