Two other trustworthy narrators likewise narrated from him, as I mentioned in my new book, Facilitating Friends’ Benefit from Ibn Hibban’s Book of Trustworthy Narrators—may Allah facilitate its completion. One of them is this Ibrahim al-Qurashi. It was perhaps for this reason that al-Dhahabi said of him in his entry in al-Kashif: “Truthful.” For this reason, I returned to and adopted al-Iraqi’s aforementioned view, especially since it has been reported through other chains as will be explained.
Ahmad (3/220), as well as al-Bukhari in al-Kuna (45/385), and al-Bayhaqi also (10705), narrated it through Sharik, from Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr, from Abu Talhah, from Anas, in abridged form, with the wording: “Every building will be a burden upon its owner on the Day of Resurrection, except what is in a mosque—or in building a mosque; Aswad, meaning Ibn Amir, was uncertain—or what is indispensable.” He later passed by and did not find it, so he asked, “What happened to the dome?” I said, “Its owner heard what you said and demolished it.” He said, “May Allah have mercy on him.”
I say: Sharik is Ibn Abd Allah al-Qadi, and he had a poor memory. As you can see, he differed in the wording of the Prophet’s statement and added, “May Allah have mercy on him.” Yet this addition has been reported in some of the forthcoming chains.
I later found that al-Hafiz, in al-Fath (11/93), cited the hadith under discussion through Abu Dawud’s narration, and then remarked:
