The hadith also has another chain from Ibn Dinar. Abd ibn Humayd said in al-Muntakhab min al-Musnad (folio 105/2): Abu Asim informed us, from Musa ibn Ubaydah al-Rabadhi, from Abd Allah ibn Dinar, with the same report. Al-Baghawi also narrated it in his Exegesis (7/349). Musa ibn Ubaydah is weak, so reliance rests on Musa ibn Uqbah. Abd Allah ibn Ja‘far also corroborated them: Abd Allah ibn Dinar narrated it to us in abbreviated form, without the phrase seeking forgiveness. The wording of Ibn Ja‘far has preceded under hadith 2700. “Ubudiyyah” means arrogance; its initial letter may be pronounced with either a u or i vowel, as stated in al-Nihayah.
2804 — “Every son of Adam inevitably has his share of illicit sexual sin: the adultery of the eye is looking; the adultery of the hand is touching; and the soul desires and entertains thoughts, while the private parts either confirm that or deny it.”
Imam Ahmad recorded it (2/349–350): Hasan narrated to us; Ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to us; Abd al-Rahman al-A‘raj narrated to us from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said it.
I say: This is a chain whose narrators are trustworthy, except Ibn Lahi‘ah, whose retention was weak. However, he has been corroborated, which shows that he retained it correctly; it is therefore among his authentic narrations. Ibn Hibban said in his Sahih (4405—al-Ihsan): Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Thawban al-Tarsusi informed us; al-Rabi‘ ibn Sulayman al-Muradi narrated to us; Shu‘ayb ibn al-Layth ibn Sa‘d narrated to us from al-Layth ibn Sa‘d, from Ja‘far ibn Rabi‘ah, from Abd al-Rahman al-A‘raj, with the same report. I say: This is a strong corroborating chain for Ibn Lahi‘ah through Ja‘far ibn Rabi‘ah, for he is trustworthy and among the transmitters cited by both al-Bukhari and Muslim. Those beneath him in the chain are likewise trustworthy and have biographies in al-Tahdhib, apart from this al-Tarsusi,
