the last of which is my commentary on my new book, Sahih al-Adab al-Mufrad (nos. 801/1049), which is nearing completion, Allah Most High willing. It was then printed and published, together with its counterpart, Da'if al-Adab al-Mufrad. All praise is due to Allah for His enabling grace.
- “Before the Day of Resurrection, a fire will emerge from the sea of Hadramawt and drive the people together.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what do you command us to do?” He said, “Make your way to al-Sham (Greater Syria).”
Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it in al-Musannaf (15/78): Abu Amir al-Aqadi narrated to us from Ali ibn al-Mubarak, from Yahya, who said: Abu Qilabah narrated to me; Salim ibn Abdullah narrated to me; Abdullah ibn Umar narrated to me, saying: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission meeting the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim. Ahmad also recorded it (2/99): Yahya ibn Ishaq narrated to us; Aban ibn Yazid narrated to us from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, with some abridgement. This too is an authentic chain of transmission meeting Muslim’s criterion.
- “Two brothers lived in the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. One of them would come to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him—or, in another narration, attend the Prophet’s hadith sessions and gatherings—while the other worked at a trade. The working brother complained about his brother to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, [saying, ‘O Messenger of Allah, this brother of mine does not help me in any way.’] He replied, ‘Perhaps it is on his account that you are provided for.’”
