on his part in this regard—there can be no doubt that the version transmitted by those who reported it from Ruh without this addition is stronger, since it agrees with the version of the first two reliable narrators, Abu ʿAsim and Hajjaj ibn Muhammad, which contains no such addition.
Fourth: I found another chain for this hadith from Jabir which clarifies that this addition is a Companion-attributed report, relating an act of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Al-Ajurri recorded in al-Shariʿah (p. 282), through Wahb ibn Munabbih, from Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the account of the arrival: “Then their Lord, Mighty and Majestic, will manifest Himself to them, laughing.” Jabir said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, laugh until his uvula became visible.”
I say: Its chain of transmission is good. It also shows the error of the one who narrated from Ishaq and directly attributed the visibility of the uvula to the Prophet; the correct attribution is certainly to the Companion. And Allah knows best.
This hadith also has a corroborating report, similar in wording, from Abu Hurayrah, whose documentation has already appeared under no. 756. The statement that He, Exalted is He, manifests Himself laughing is also corroborated by other reports, including one from Abu Musa al-Ashʿari, which has likewise preceded under no. 755. Al-Daraqutni recorded it in al-Nuzul (48/33), through Yahya ibn Ishaq Abu Zakariyya al-Saylahini: Ibn Lahiʿah narrated to us from Abu al-Zubayr, with the previously mentioned chain. Concerning this Yahya, al-Hafiz said (2/420): “He was among the early pupils of Ibn Lahiʿah.”
2752 — “This tribe of Mudar will leave no righteous servant of Allah upon the earth without afflicting and destroying him, until Allah overtakes it with armies from among His servants and humiliates it so that it cannot protect even the tail end of a valley.”
It was recorded by Ahmad (5/390), al-Bazzar (4/127/3360), al-Hakim (4/469–470), and Ibn ʿAsakir (8/809), through Qatadah, from Abu al-Tufayl, who said:
