“Ahmad, Abu Yaʿla, and al-Tabarani narrated it, and their narrators are those of the Sahih, except Umm Musa, who is trustworthy.” Therefore, al-Hafiz did not go beyond saying of her: “Acceptable.”
I say: That is, when corroborated; this is what is indicated by al-Daraqutni’s preceding statement. She has indeed been corroborated, as mentioned above, so the report is good by virtue of supporting evidence—contrary to the annotator of Abu Yaʿla and al-Diyaʾ! And Allah knows best.
2751 — “On the Day of Resurrection, we shall be upon a mound above the people. The nations will be called along with their idols and whatever they used to worship, one after another. Then our Lord will come to us and say: ‘What are you waiting for?’ They will say: ‘We are waiting for our Lord.’ He will say: ‘I am your Lord.’ They will say: ‘Until we look upon You.’ Then He will reveal Himself to them, laughing, and they will follow Him.”
It was recorded by Ahmad (3/345) and al-Darimi in al-Radd ʿala al-Jahmiyyah (p. 58), through the route of Ibn Lahiʿah, from Abu al-Zubayr, who said: “I asked Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, about coming to the Fire, and he informed me that he had heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say...” Then he mentioned it.
I say: This chain of transmission is authentic. Its narrators are trustworthy apart from Ibn Lahiʿah, who has been graded weak on account of his memory. However, this hadith is among those which he retained, for Ibn Jurayj corroborated him in it. He said: “Abu al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir ibn ʿAbd Allah report it.” He did not explicitly attribute it to the Prophet, but it carries the ruling of a report attributed to the Prophet, as is apparent—especially since he explicitly attributed it to the Prophet through some routes from him, and through others, as will follow.
Three trustworthy narrators reported it from him. The first was Abu ʿAsim—al-Dahhak ibn Makhlad al-Nabil, a trustworthy narrator of exacting precision—who said: “Ibn Jurayj narrated it to us,” attributing it to the Companion. Yet at its end he said: “He said: ‘Then He reveals Himself to them’—he said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: “laughing.”’”
