Abu Hurayrah narrated, attributing it to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: “Avoid the two things that bring people’s curses.” They asked, “What are the two things that bring people’s curses, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Relieving oneself on people’s paths or in their shade.” It was narrated by the two scholars mentioned above, and its documentation appears in the two sources previously cited.

The Prophet’s saying, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: “When any of you cleans himself with stones, let him do so an odd number of times...” the hadith. It was narrated by al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu ‘Awanah, and others in their Sahih collections, through various chains from Abu Hurayrah. I have documented some of these chains in Sahih Abu Dawud, no. 128.
It also has a corroborating report from Jabir, attributing the same wording to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Muslim (1/147) and Ahmad (3/294) narrated it through Abu al-Zubayr, who said that he heard Jabir narrate it. Ahmad then narrated it (3/400) through Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, with the wording: “...let him cleanse himself with stones three times.” Its chain of transmission is authentic according to Muslim’s criteria. Ibn Abi Shaybah added in al-Musannaf (1/155): “That is, he cleanses himself after relieving himself.” Its documentation has preceded under no. 1295, and it will come under no. 2749.
- What some of them narrated from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that he said: “Avoid places that bring people’s curses, and have arrows ready.” Abu ‘Ubayd narrated it in Gharib al-Hadith (folio 12/2): “Muhammad ibn al-Hasan narrated it to us, from ‘Isa ibn Abi ‘Isa al-Hannat, from al-Sha‘bi, from someone who heard the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say this.”
