Ibn Jarīr then also recorded it (2/100/1253) through Ibn Wahb, who said: Ibn Lahīʿah informed me from ʿAbdullāh ibn Hubayrah and al-Ḥārith ibn Yazīd, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Jubayr, from ʿUqbah, in a report ascribed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, describing his practice. This chain of transmission is also authentic: all of its narrators are trustworthy and were used by both al-Bukhārī and Muslim, except Ibn Lahīʿah, whose reports have been shown to be sound when narrated from him by Ibn Wahb. It was previously cited there through another route from Ibn Lahīʿah, in which al-Ḥārith ibn Yazīd was not coupled with Ibn Hubayrah. In sum, this is a strong corroborating report for the hadith under this heading. So praise be to Allah for His granting of success. I ask Him for more of His bounty and that He admit me into Paradise through His mercy. Indeed, He is Most Merciful, All-Forgiving.
2747 — “If the blood rises in any of you, let him undergo cupping, for when the blood overwhelms a person, it kills him.”
Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī recorded it in Tahdhīb al-Āthār (2/106/1277): Mūsā ibn Sahl al-Ramlī narrated to me: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated to us: Sulaymān ibn Ḥibbān narrated to us: Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl narrated to us from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it.
I say: Ibn Jarīr later indicated that it was authentic (p. 116), and this is not far from correct. Its narrators are trustworthy and were used by both al-Bukhārī and Muslim, except Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz—al-Ramlī—who was used by al-Bukhārī; and Mūsā, who narrated from him, is unquestionably trustworthy. Were it not for the criticism of Ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz on account of his memory, I would have declared it authentic. Al-Ḥāfiẓ alluded to this in al-Taqrīb, saying: “Truthful, prone to error, and possessed knowledge.” In his biographical notice in the introduction to Fatḥ al-Bārī (p. 441, al-Munīriyyah edition), he also indicated that
