al-Kabīr (24/26/67)—and Aḥmad in al-Musnad (6/333). They both said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr, Abū Aḥmad al-Zubayrī, narrated to us; Saʿd ibn Aws narrated to us, from Bilāl al-ʿAbsī, from Maymūnah, who said: One day, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said—and he then cited it. He was corroborated by ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsā, from Saʿd ibn Aws, through the same chain; it includes the additional wording. Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it (14).
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. Saʿd and Bilāl—who is Ibn Yaḥyā—are both trustworthy. After attributing it to al-Ṭabarānī and Aḥmad, al-Haythamī (7/320) said: “Aḥmad’s narrators are trustworthy.” I say: There was no need to mention Aḥmad to the exclusion of al-Ṭabarānī, for you have learned that al-Ṭabarānī narrates it from Ibn Abī Shaybah through the first route. Its narrators are likewise trustworthy through the other route, which contains the additional wording. This is among his foretelling miracles, peace and blessings be upon him, especially his statement: “Adornment becomes widespread.” It has indeed spread through buildings, clothing, and commercial premises in a remarkable way—even on young men’s shirts and sandals, and even on women’s sandals! May Allah bestow blessings upon the one whom the Exalted described in His saying:
“Nor does he speak from his own desire. It is nothing but a revelation revealed.”
Regarding “desire,” Ibn al-Athīr said: “That is, little chastity and much asking.”
2745 — “Today he has indeed judged them by Allah’s judgment, which He decreed from above seven heavens”—meaning Saʿd ibn Muʿādh in his judgment concerning Banū Qurayẓah.
It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī in al-Manāqib al-Kubrā (5/62–63/8223), Ibn Saʿd in al-Ṭabaqāt (3/426), and al-Ṭaḥāwī in Sharḥ al-Maʿānī (2/124–
