today, is a modern innovation, a communist Qarmaṭian tendency, a blatant مخالفة [contravention] of the way followed by our righteous predecessors, an imposition upon women of duties for which they were not created, and an exposure of them to what is unbecoming for them should they fall captive into enemy hands. Allah is the One whose help is sought.

2741 — “When Allah, exalted is He, created the creation, the womb stood up and held fast to the waist of the Most Merciful. [He said: ‘Enough!’] It said: ‘This is the station of one seeking refuge [in You] from the severing of kinship ties.’ He said: [‘Yes.] Would it not please you that I maintain ties with whoever maintains you, and sever whoever severs you?’ [It said: ‘Indeed, O my Lord!’] He said: ‘Then that is [granted] to you.’” Abu Hurayrah said: [Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:] “Recite, if you wish:

“Would you then, if you turn away, spread corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship? They are those whom Allah has cursed, rendering them deaf and blinding their sight. Do they not reflect upon the Quran, or are there locks upon their hearts?”

Ahmad related it (2/330): Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī narrated to us; Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Muzarrid narrated to me, saying: My uncle Saʿīd Abū al-Ḥubāb narrated to me; he said: I heard Abū Hurayrah say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it. I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, and they both recorded it, as will follow. Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī was named ʿAbd al-Kabīr ibn ʿAbd al-Majīd al-Baṣrī.

Abū Masʿūd Aḥmad ibn al-Furāt differed from Imam Aḥmad, saying: Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī informed us with the wording: “When Allah created Adam, some clay remained over from his clay, and from it He created the womb...” The hadith is similar in meaning.
