Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

“This is a good, singular hadith. Al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān transmitted it from Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah, from Ḥumayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān; although the way it is worded gives it the appearance of being mursal. It has a supporting report in the hadith of Umm Waraqah, who said: ‘When the Messenger of Allah set out for Badr, I said: O Messenger of Allah, permit me to go forth to battle with you. He said: Remain in your home ...’” He was reported by Abū Dāwūd. ...

I say: Its chain of transmission is good, as I established in Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd (605). However, his statement, “although the way it is worded gives it the appearance of being mursal,” is unclear to me. For al-Qurashī’s statement, “from Umm Kabshah,” has the same force as if he had said, “Umm Kabshah narrated to me,” so long as he is not known for concealment in transmission or for omitting links. Perhaps he meant specifically al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān’s narration from Ibn Abī Shaybah, but he did not provide its wording for us to examine. And Allah knows best.

The wording of the hadith in Ibn Saʿd is: “Stay seated; let not people say that Muḥammad goes out to battle with a woman.”

Al-Haythamī said in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (5/323–324): “Al-Ṭabarānī related it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr and al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ, and the narrators of both are narrators of the Ṣaḥīḥ.”

Benefit: Al-Ḥāfiẓ then said after the hadith in al-Iṣābah: “It is possible to reconcile this with what preceded in the biography of Umm Sinān al-Aslamiyyah by holding that this abrogates that, because that occurred at Khaybar, whereas the event before it took place at Uḥud, as reported in the Ṣaḥīḥ in the hadith of al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib; and this was after the Conquest.”

I say: By “what preceded,” he is referring to what al-Khaṭīb related in al-Muʾtalif from al-Wāqidī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Yaḥyā, from Thubaytah, from her mother, who said:
