Second: He said: “In the narration of Abū (!) al-Aswad: ‘There will be leaders after me who follow my guidance but do not follow my sunnah.’” This is how he stated it, but it is an obvious error. I do not know how al-ʿAynī followed him in it! The correct wording is: “who do not follow …,” as the context indicates and as found in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim.
2740 — “Were it not that this would become a precedent, so that people would say, ‘So-and-so woman went out,’ I would have permitted you; but remain in your home.”
Al-Ṭabarānī related it in al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ (1/270/4604), as did Ibn Mandah in al-Maʿrifah (2/362/2), from him; and Ibn Ḥajar in Takhrīj al-Mukhtaṣar (fol. 137/1), through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Zaydān al-Bajalī, who said: Muḥammad ibn Ṭarīf al-Bajalī informed us; he said: Ḥumayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ruʾāsī informed us, from al-Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ, from al-Aswad ibn Qays, who said: Saʿīd ibn ʿAmr al-Qurashī narrated to me, from Umm Kabshah—a woman of Banū ʿUdhrā—that she said: “O Messenger of Allah, permit me to go out with such-and-such an army.” He said, “No.” She said: “O Prophet of Allah, I do not wish to fight; I only wish to treat the wounded and care for the sick.” He said the above.
Al-Ṭabarānī does not include the words, “in your home.” He said: “It is not narrated from Umm Kabshah except through this chain of transmission; al-Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ alone narrated it.” I say: He is trustworthy and among Muslim’s narrators, as is Muḥammad ibn Ṭarīf al-Bajalī. Nor was he alone in narrating it, as al-Ṭabarānī’s statement suggests, for Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah corroborated him in al-Muṣannaf (12/526/15500): Ḥumayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ruʾāsī narrated to us through the same chain. Ibn Saʿd also related it from him in al-Ṭabaqāt (8/308), as did Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim in al-Āḥād wa-al-Mathānī (3473), al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (25/176/431), and others.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said after citing it:
