appears the additional wording in question, together with a further addition that I shall note presently. They are as follows:
First route: through Qatādah, from him.
Ibn Mājah recorded it (2/480). Al-Būṣayrī states in his Zawāʾid: “Its chain is authentic; its narrators are trustworthy.”
I say: I have some misgivings about declaring it authentic, but there is no need to discuss that here; it is perfectly serviceable as supporting evidence.
Second route: through al-ʿUmayrī, from him.
Aḥmad recorded it (3/120). I have been unable to identify this al-ʿUmayrī; most probably the name is a scribal corruption of al-Numayrī, whose name is Ziyād ibn ʿAbd Allāh. He did transmit from Anas, and Ṣadaqah ibn Yasār narrated from him—and it is he who relates this ḥadith here. Al-Numayrī is weak, while the remainder of the narrators are reliable.
Third route: through Ibn Luhayʿah—who said, “Khālid ibn Yazīd narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Hilāl, from him.” This version adds: “They said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, who is that faction?’ He replied, ‘The community, the community.’”
Aḥmad likewise recorded it (3/145), and its chain is ḥasan when adduced as corroboration.
Fourth route: through Salmān—or Sulaymān—ibn Ṭarīf, from him.
Al-Ājurrī included it in al-Sharīʿah (17), and Ibn Baṭṭah in al-Ibānah (2/118/2). I have found no biographical entry for Ibn Ṭarīf.
Fifth route: through Suwayd ibn Saʿīd, who said: “Mubārak ibn Saḥīm narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Ṣuhayb, from Anas.”
