there is a strong likelihood that she was ʿĀʾishah, may Allah be pleased with her, the maternal aunt of ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr. For a number of narrators transmitted it from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from her, with the wording: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, instructed us to build mosques in the residential quarters, and to clean and perfume them.”
Its chain of transmission is authentic according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, as I established in Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd (479). There is also, in that work, a corroborating report from the hadith of Samurah ibn Jundub. Al-Bayhaqī also narrated it and said (2/440): “What is meant by ‘residential quarters’ is their tribes and clans.”
2725 — “Whoever circumambulates the House [seven times] and performs two rakʿahs will have the equivalent of freeing a slave.”
Ibn Mājah recorded it (2989—al-Aʿẓamī’s edition) through al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Musayyib, from ʿAṭāʾ, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say this. He then cited it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. All its narrators are trustworthy and among the narrators of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, apart from Ibn Mājah’s shaykh, ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad—al-Ṭanāfisī—who was trustworthy and devout, as al-Ḥāfiẓ said. For this reason, al-Būṣīrī said in Zawāʾid Ibn Mājah (182/2): “This is a chain whose narrators are trustworthy.”
ʿAṭāʾ is Ibn Abī Rabāḥ, and he has been corroborated: ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib narrated it from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr, who heard his father say: I heard Ibn ʿUmar say it, attributing it to the Prophet, and including the additional wording. It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (959), Ibn Khuzaymah in his Ṣaḥīḥ (2753), and Ibn Ḥibbān
