Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

I say: A number of reliable narrators reported from him. Thus, he is as al-Dhahabi said: “There is no harm in him.” Al-ʿAsqalani concurred, mentioning that Ibn Hibban included him in al-Thiqat (8/148).

The same applies to Muhammad ibn Mirdas al-Ansari: a number of leading imams narrated from him, among them al-Bukhari in Juzʾ al-Qiraʾah. Ibn Hibban likewise included him in al-Thiqat (9/107). The narrators above these two are well known, so the chain is good; indeed, it is authentic, because it has many corroborating reports, some of which I shall mention, Allah Most High willing.

Al-Haythami said of the hadith (4/24): “Al-Bazzar narrated it, and its chain includes Bakr ibn Sulayman al-Basri, whom al-Dhahabi declared trustworthy and from whom a number of narrators reported. The rest of its narrators have been declared trustworthy.”

Among its corroborating reports is what Hammad ibn Salamah narrated: Abu al-Zubayr informed us from Jabir ibn ʿAbd Allah that a man slaughtered a young, underage male goat before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had prayed. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “It will not suffice for anyone after you,” and he prohibited them from slaughtering until they had prayed.

Ahmad recorded it (3/364), as did al-Tahawi (4/172, Egypt), Abu Yaʿla (2/492), and Ibn Hibban (1051), who narrated it from him. It meets Muslim’s criteria, except that Abu al-Zubayr practised tadlis. However, in another version he explicitly stated direct transmission. Imam Ahmad said (3/324): Muhammad ibn Bakr narrated to us: Ibn Jurayj informed us: Abu al-Zubayr told me that he heard Jabir ibn ʿAbd Allah say: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led us in prayer in Medina on the Day of Sacrifice. Then two men came forward and slaughtered, supposing that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had already slaughtered. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered whoever had slaughtered before him to repeat it with another sacrifice, and not to slaughter until the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had slaughtered.”

ʿAbd al-Razzaq corroborated him: Ibn Jurayj informed us from him, with every link explicitly stating transmission and hearing.
