I say: It is very weak, because Abū al-Mundhir al-Warrāq—whose name was Yūsuf ibn ʿAṭiyyah al-Bāhilī—is abandoned, as stated in al-Taqrīb. However, al-Haythamī said in al-Majmaʿ (8/84): “Al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it in al-Awsaṭ, and al-Bazzār transmitted something similar to it… The transmitters of al-Bazzār are among those of the Ṣaḥīḥ.” This is what he said. Yet I came across al-Bazzār’s chain of transmission and wording through Zawāʾid al-Bazzār by al-ʿAsqalānī (p. 248). He transmitted it through Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān, from al-Jurayrī, through that chain, except that he said: “From Abū Naḍrah—who said: I know him only as Abū Saʿīd…” Thus, he related it as attributed to the Prophet in abbreviated form, with the wording: He said in a sermon he delivered: “Indeed, your father is one, and your religion is one. Your father is Adam, and Adam was created from dust.”
Al-Bazzār said: “We know of no narration from Abū Saʿīd except through this route.” I say: It is authentic; its narrators are trustworthy and among the narrators of the Ṣaḥīḥ, as al-Haythamī said, were it not that the narrator had some slight uncertainty regarding the Companion from whom he narrated. This does not cause any harm, since all the Companions are upright, as mentioned above. And Allah knows best.
The hadith also has a supporting narration from Ibn ʿUmar: the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, addressed the people on the day of the Conquest of Mecca and said: “O people, Allah has removed from you the pride of the Age of Ignorance and its boasting in forefathers. People are of two kinds: a righteous, God-fearing man, honored in the sight of Allah; and a wicked, wretched man, insignificant in the sight of Allah. All people are the children of Adam, and Allah created Adam from dust.” Allah says: “O mankind, We created you from a male and a female…” up to His words: “Indeed, the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.”
