ʿAbd Allah, from Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Hubali, from al-Munydhir. In al-Munydhir’s biography in al-Isabah, al-Hafiz said: “Al-Tabarani connected its chain of transmission as far as Rushdayn. Ibn Wahb corroborated him, narrating from Huyayy, though he did not name him, but said: ‘from a man among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.’ Ibn Mandah also narrated it.”
I say: It is well known that all the Companions are upright; therefore, Ibn Wahb’s failure to name him does no harm. Through this corroboration, the hadith is established, praise be to Allah. Moreover, al-Tabarani narrated the hadith in al-Muʿjam al-Kabir (20/355/838), with an authentic chain of transmission to Rushdayn, from him. Ibn Qaniʿ likewise narrated it in Muʿjam al-Sahabah through another route from him, but did not mention the words, “upon entering the morning.” They are established in al-Tabarani’s narration, as well as in Ibn Wahb’s narration, as indicated by al-Hafiz’s treatment in al-Isabah. He further added: “Ibn Mandah also narrated it.”
This addition is supported by a hadith, traced back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, from a man among his Companions, with different wording and another addition. Its chain contains inconsistency and an unidentified narrator; for this reason, I included it in the other book as no. 5020. It contains yet another addition: “three times.” The basic wording of the hadith has a good supporting report from Abu Saʿid al-Khudri, traced back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with similar wording. It has already appeared as no. 334, without mention of the morning and evening. I then found the hadith in Abu Nuʿaym’s al-Maʿrifah (2/188/2), through al-Tabarani. He then cited it in suspended form from Ibn Wahb.
2687 — “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, died while a woolen striped cloak was being woven for him.”
Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in “A Section on Those Who Choose Humility in Dress,” from “Forty [Hadith] from the Branches of Faith—Being the Chapter on Garments, Attire, and What Is Disliked Thereof,” from the book The Branches [of Faith].
