- As for the first, second, third, and fourth sections, they were narrated by ‘Abd al-Hamid ibn Bahram: Shahr ibn Hawshab related to us: Abu Zabiyyah informed me that Shurahbil ibn al-Simt summoned ‘Amr ibn ‘Abasah al-Sulami and said, “O Ibn ‘Abasah, will you relate to me a hadith that you yourself heard from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), containing neither addition nor falsehood, and not relate it to me from someone else who heard it from him rather than you?” He said, “Yes. I heard the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) say...” Then he mentioned it at length, and it included these sections.
Ahmad and ‘Abd ibn Humayd, in al-Muntakhab min al-Musnad (fol. 46/2), reported it. Its chain of transmission is good as corroborating and supporting evidence. Hariz ibn ‘Uthman also corroborated him: Sulaym ibn ‘Amir related to us that ‘Amr ibn ‘Abasah was with Shurahbil ibn al-Simt, who said, “O ‘Amr...” and then mentioned the hadith, containing the second, third, and fourth sections. Ahmad and ‘Abd ibn Humayd (fol. 45/1) reported it, and both chains of transmission are authentic. Safwan also corroborated him, saying: Sulaym related the same hadith to me. Al-Nasa’i reported it, and it has preceded under no. 1244.
The first and fifth sections also have a strong corroborating report in a hadith of Abu Dharr, attributed to the Prophet. Ahmad (5/151, 153, 159, and 164) and al-Tabarani in al-Kabir (1/82/1–2) reported it through al-Hasan, who said: Sa‘sa‘ah ibn Mu‘awiyah related to me from him. They added: “We said, ‘What are these two items?’ He said, ‘If they are riding animals, then two riding animals; if they are horses, then two horses; and if they are camels, then two camels,’” until he had enumerated every category of property. Its chain of transmission is authentic. Al-Nasa’i also reported the fifth section of it (2/66).
