This is an authentic chain of transmission for a report attributed to a Companion. However, it has another chain attributing it to the Prophet, related by Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Ḥamzah, who said: I heard Yazīd ibn Shajarah in Byzantine territory say, “The Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said,” and he then quoted the above statement. Al-Ḥākim recorded it (3/494).
I have not found a biographical entry for ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Ḥamzah. It is possible that he was ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Ḥamzah al-Ḥimṣī, who is mentioned among the shaykhs of Ibn ʿAyyāsh; if so, he is weak.
I found a strong supporting narration for al-Hāshimī, if the chain to it could be established. Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī said in al-Fawāʾid (6/66/1): “Muḥammad ibn Yūnus ibn Mūsā al-Qurashī informed us; Yaḥyā ibn Kathīr informed us; Shuʿbah informed us from al-Aʿmash, from Mujāhid, with the same wording.” All of its narrators are trustworthy and among the narrators of the two Shaykhs, apart from this Qurashī—al-Kudaymī—who is a liar.
Nevertheless, the hadith is corroborated by the Prophet’s saying, blessings and peace be upon him: “Paradise lies beneath the shade of swords.” Al-Bukhārī narrated it from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā, and Muslim from Abū Mūsā. It has been documented in al-Irwāʾ (5/6–7).
2673 — “Three eyes will not see the Fire on the Day of Resurrection: an eye that wept from the fear of Allah, an eye that kept watch in the cause of Allah, and an eye that lowered its gaze from what Allah has forbidden.”
It has been narrated on the authority of Muʿāwiyah ibn Ḥaydah, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās, Abū Rayḥānah, Abū Hurayrah, and Anas ibn Mālik.
