Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

Ibn Hibban (863) and al-Hakim (1/63) narrated it, and al-Bayhaqi transmitted it from him in al-Shu‘ab (3/203). Al-Hakim said: “It is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim, for he cited Abu Kathir al-Zubaydi as evidence in his book. His name was Yazid ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Udhaynah; he was a well-known Successor, called Abu Kathir the Blind.” Al-Dhahabi concurred with him. It has previously been given in abbreviated form through another chain from Abu Dharr (575).

I say: His name has also been given as Yazid ibn Abdullah ibn Udhaynah, and it has also been said: Ibn Ghufaylah. The apparent sense of al-Hakim’s statement is that his father was among Muslim’s narrators, but I did not find him in al-Tahdhib, neither under Abdullah ibn Udhaynah nor under Abd al-Rahman ibn Udhaynah. It does, however, mention Abd al-Rahman ibn Udhaynah ibn Salamah al-Abdi al-Kufi, the judge of Basra, who narrated from his father and Abu Hurayrah, and from whom Abu Ishaq al-Sabi‘i and others narrated. Yet it does not mention his son among them, so he is not the person referred to in that biographical entry. And Allah knows best.

2670 — “I was with the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, in Mecca. We went out into some of its outskirts, and no mountain or tree did he encounter without its saying: ‘Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah.’”

Al-Tirmidhi (3630), al-Darimi (1/12), Abu Nu‘aym in al-Dala’il (p. 138), and al-Hakim (2/620) narrated it through al-Walid ibn Abi Thawr, from al-Suddi, from Abbad ibn Abi Yazid, from Ali ibn Abi Talib, who said: and then cited it. Al-Tirmidhi said: “A [good] singular hadith.”

I say: Its chain of transmission is weak. Regarding this Abbad, al-Dhahabi said: “It is not known who he is,” and al-Walid ibn Abi Thawr is weak. Perhaps al-Tirmidhi’s grading it good—which appears in some manuscripts and was quoted from him by al-Mundhiri (2/146)—was only because it has another chain and corroborating reports by which it is strengthened
