Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in al-Taqrīb: “A Shīʿī, [yet] truthful.” Ibn Abī Shaybah added at its beginning: “I do not know which of the two has made me happier: Jaʿfar’s arrival or the conquest of Khaybar.” With this addition, al-Bayhaqī recorded it in al-Sunan (7/101) and Shuʿab al-Īmān (6/477/8968), saying: “This is mursal.”
He then narrated it by way of Ziyād ibn ʿAbd Allāh: Mujālid ibn Saʿīd narrated to us from ʿĀmir al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar, who mentioned the hadith under discussion (1). He said: “The preserved version is the first one: mursal.”
I say: This is a third corroborating narration from Ziyād ibn ʿAbd Allāh—al-Bakkāʾī—who has some weakness. However, he differed from the others by making it a hadith with a continuous chain to ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar. The sound narration from Mujālid is that it is a hadith of Jābir, as stated previously. Al-Ḥākim connected its chain (3/211) by another route, from al-Ajlaḥ, from al-Shaʿbī, from Jābir, with the same wording, but without the embrace. He then narrated it through two trustworthy narrators from al-Shaʿbī as a mursal report, and said: “This is an authentic hadith; it has only come by such an authentic chain in mursal form.” Al-Dhahabī commented after this:
