- As for the hadith of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, it was recorded by Ibn Majah and Ibn ‘Asakir, as has preceded in the second chain from Anas, along with an explanation of its hidden defect.
Note: It later became clear that this hadith had already been referenced in the fourth volume as no. 1979. However, since I found its documentation here to be more extensive and more beneficial than there, I decided to retain it here. “Whatever is decreed will come to pass.”
- “What would Muhammad think of Allah if he were to meet Allah while these are in his possession? Spend them.”
It is reported from the hadith of ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, through several routes:
The first: from Muhammad ibn ‘Amr, from Abu Salamah, from ‘A’ishah, who said: During the illness in which he died, Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “[O ‘A’ishah,] what happened to the gold?” She said: “I said: It is with me.” He said: “Bring it to me.” So I brought it to him; it was between five and nine [dinars]. He placed it in his hand, then said concerning it—and Yazid gestured with his hand—and he mentioned the above hadith.
It was recorded by Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (2142—Mawarid), Ahmad (6/182), and Ibn Sa‘d in al-Tabaqat (2/2/33). I say: This is a good, authentic chain of transmission, for Abu Hazim corroborated Muhammad ibn ‘Amr in narrating it from Abu Salamah. It was recorded by Ibn Sa‘d and Ibn Hibban (2143). Al-Wazi‘ ibn Nafi‘ also corroborated him, as narrated by Abu al-Shaykh Ibn Hayyan in Akhlaq al-Nabi (p. 303), but al-Wazi‘ is abandoned.
The second: from Musa ibn Jubayr, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf, who said:
