Kafrah.” Al-Tabarani narrated it with a satisfactory chain, as stated in al-Targhib; its narrators are all narrators of the Sahih collections, as stated in al-Majma'. Al-Hafiz made no comment on it.
2641 — “Do not fight a people until you invite them to Islam.”
Abd al-Razzaq narrated in al-Musannaf (5/217/9424): Umar ibn Dharr informed us from Yahya ibn Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talhah that, when the Messenger of Allah sent Ali, he sent a man after him and said: “Follow Ali, and do not let him out of your sight. Rather, follow him, take him by the hand, and tell him: ‘The Messenger of Allah says: Remain where you are until I come to you.’” He said: So he remained until the Prophet came and said: ... then he mentioned it.
Abd al-Razzaq said: I myself heard it from Yahya ibn Ishaq. I say: Its chain is authentic, but it has a double break or is mursal. Al-Tabarani, however, narrated it with a connected chain in al-Awsat, from the hadith of Anas. Al-Haythami cited a brief version resembling it in Majma' al-Zawa'id (5/305) and said: “Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Awsat. Its narrators are all narrators of the Sahih collections, apart from Uthman ibn Yahya al-Qurqasani, who is trustworthy.”
I say: Its chain is as follows (2/222/1/8430—according to my numbering): Musa ibn Jumhur narrated to us; Uthman ibn Yahya al-Qurqasani narrated to us; Sufyan narrated to us from Umar ibn Dharr, from Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talhah, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: “The Messenger of Allah sent Ali ibn Abi Talib to a people against whom he was to fight. Then he sent a man after him and said: ‘Do not let him out of your sight, and tell him: Do not fight them until you invite them to Islam.’”
He said: “No one narrated it from Ishaq except Umar; Ibn Uyaynah alone narrated it.” I say: He is trustworthy, as are those above him in the chain. As for al-Qurqasani, Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy (8/455).
