is among the clearest proofs of this. Allah is the One we ask to preserve our faith and purify our hearts of envy, rancor, and arrogance. Indeed, He is the best One to be asked. (1)
2631 — “No servant whom Allah places in charge of a people dies while deceiving those under his charge except that Allah forbids Paradise to him.”
It was narrated by al-Bukhari (4/387), Muslim (1/88 and 6/8), al-Darimi (2/324), and Ahmad (5/25), through various chains from al-Hasan, who said: Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad visited Maqil ibn Yasar al-Muzani during the illness from which he died. Maqil said: “I shall relate to you a hadith which I heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Had I known that I still had life remaining, I would not have related it to you. I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say…” Then he mentioned it.
In a narration of al-Bukhari, al-Hasan said: “We went with Maqil ibn Yasar to visit him, and Ubayd Allah entered upon us. Maqil said to him…” Then he mentioned something similar.
Abu al-Malih corroborated this, narrating that Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad entered upon Maqil ibn Yasar during his illness, and Maqil said to him… Then he mentioned something similar. Its wording is: “No ruler who assumes responsibility for the affairs of the Muslims, then does not strive on their behalf and act sincerely toward them, will enter Paradise with them.” Muslim narrated it. A similar version has previously been cited through the narration of Ahmad and others under no. 1754.
