Isḥāq was al-Sabīʿī, as stated in al-Iṣābah; he became confused in his later years and also practised concealment in transmission. As for Saʿīd ibn al-Ḥārith, I have not identified him, so the chain of transmission is obscure. The first report is stronger, since Maʿqil corroborates Ibn Lahīʿah in it. Yet it contains Abū al-Zubayr’s ambiguous transmission formula, and he is known for concealment in transmission, so I do not know whether he heard it from Jābir or not.
Perhaps al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar regarded the first report as more probable, for he cited it without comment in al-Fatḥ (11/240) from this narration of Muslim, or because of corroborating reports which he mentioned shortly beforehand. In my view, these strengthen the hadith, Allah Most High willing. Among them is the hadith of ʿĀʾishah, may Allah be pleased with her, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, died when there was nothing in my house that any living creature could eat except a portion of barley on a shelf. I ate from it for a long time; then I measured it, and it was exhausted.”
It was transmitted by al-Bukhārī (6/146 and 11/239), Muslim (8/218), Ibn Mājah (3345), and Aḥmad (4/108), who added: “Would that I had not measured it.” Its chain of transmission is sound.
2626 — “Take your sister ʿĀʾishah behind you and enable her to perform ʿumrah from al-Tanʿīm. When you descend from the hillock, tell her to enter the state of iḥrām, for it is an accepted ʿumrah.”
Al-Ḥākim transmitted it (3/477) through Dāwūd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-ʿAṭṭār: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān ibn Khuthaym narrated to me, from Yūsuf ibn Māhak, from Ḥafṣah bint ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr, from her father, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said this to him. He made no comment on it. Al-Dhahabī said: “I say: Its chain is strong.”
