2606 — “One day, he was inspecting some horses, and ʿUyaynah ibn Ḥiṣn ibn Badr al-Fazārī was with him. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him: ‘I am more knowledgeable about horses than you are.’
ʿUyaynah replied: ‘And I am more knowledgeable about men than you are!’
The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘How is that?’
He said: ‘The best of men are those who carry their swords upon their shoulders, lay their spears across their horses’ saddles, and wear striped cloaks—the people of Najd.’
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘You have lied. Rather, the best of men are the men of Yemen. Faith is Yemeni; it is found among Lakhm, Judhām, and ʿĀmilah. Māʾkūl of Ḥimyar is better than its eater, and Ḥaḍramawt is better than Banū al-Ḥārith. One tribe is better than another, and one tribe is worse than another. By Allah, I would not care if both al-Ḥārith tribes were destroyed. May Allah curse the four kings: Jamdāʾ, Makhūsāʾ, Mushrakhāʾ, and Abḍaʿah, as well as their sister, al-ʿAmradah.’
Then he said: ‘My Lord, exalted is He, commanded me to curse Quraysh twice, and I cursed them. Then He commanded me to invoke blessings upon them, and I invoked blessings upon them twice.’
Then he said: ‘ʿUṣayyah disobeyed Allah and His Messenger—except for Qays, Juʿdah, and ʿUṣayyah (1).’
Then he said: ‘Aslam, Ghifār, Muzaynah, and their allied clans from Juhaynah are better, in the sight of Allah, exalted is He, on the Day of Resurrection, than Banū Asad, Tamīm, Ghaṭafān, and Hawāzin.’
Then he said: ‘The two worst tribes among the Arabs are Najrān and Banū Taghlib, and the tribes most numerous in Paradise are Madhḥij and Māʾkūl.’”
