“the journey of a lean, hard-driven mount.” It was recorded by Abu Ya‘la in his Musnad (1486). I say: Zabban is weak. Another corroborating report is narrated from the hadith of Amr ibn Abasah, attributed to the Prophet, with similar wording but without the addition. Al-Mundhiri said (2/62): “Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir and al-Awsat with a chain of transmission that is unobjectionable.” Al-Haythami said (3/194): “Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir and al-Awsat, and its narrators have been deemed trustworthy.”
I say: However, al-Bukhari narrated it in al-Tarikh (1/2/234), as did Ibn Abi Asim (fol. 89/1), through Junadah ibn Abi Khalid, from Abu Shaybah, from Amr ibn Abasah, with the wording: “seventy autumns.” This Abu Shaybah—al-Mahri—was given a biographical notice by Ibn Abi Hatim (4/2/390), who also cited Bulayh’s narration from him, but mentioned neither any criticism nor accreditation concerning him. Ibn Hibban included him in al-Thiqat. Junadah was likewise given a biographical notice by Ibn Abi Hatim (1/1/515), on the basis of Zayd ibn Abi Unaysah’s narration from him; Zayd is the one who narrated this hadith from him. Al-Bukhari mentioned him in his biographical notice, but did not mention any criticism or accreditation concerning him. He is included in Ibn Hibban’s al-Thiqat (6/150), while al-Dhahabi explicitly stated in al-Mizan (1/424) that he is unknown.
