Its chain of transmission is authentic according to the conditions of al-Bukhari and Muslim.
Abu Bakr ibn Abi Sabrah also narrated it from Abd al-Majid ibn Suhayl ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, from his father, from his grandfather, attributed to the Prophet, with similar wording concerning the morning and evening. The rest is likewise, but he said: “He gives life and causes death; He is Ever-Living and never dies. In His Hand is all goodness, and He is powerful over all things. His sins shall be forgiven, even if they are more numerous than the foam of the sea.”
Al-Bazzar recorded it in his Musnad (3/260/1051—al-Bahr al-Zakhkhar): “Some of our companions narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Sulayman ibn Masmul informed us: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Sabrah informed us.” I say: This chain is very weak. This Abu Bakr is abandoned and accused. Al-Haythami likewise deemed it defective on account of him (10/113–114).
Note: The documentation of the hadith under discussion has previously appeared in the first volume under no. 114. Allah then decreed that it be documented again here from new sources, with numerous benefits. To Him belong all praise and grace.
2564 — “Your children are Allah’s gift to you: ‘He grants female offspring to whom He wills, and grants male offspring to whom He wills.’ They and their property are yours when you need them.”
Al-Hakim recorded it (2/284), as did al-Bayhaqi from him (7/480), through Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Shuqayq, who said: “I heard my father say: Abu Hamzah informed us from Ibrahim al-Sa’igh, from Hammad, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad, from Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, who said: The Messenger of Allah, Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, said it.” Al-Hakim said: “It is authentic according to the conditions of al-Bukhari and Muslim, though they did not record it in this wording. Rather, they both recorded the hadith of Aishah: ‘The finest food a man eats is that which he earns, and his child is from his earnings.’”
