I have found other chains of transmission for it. Abu al-Ward narrated it from Abu Muhammad al-Hadrami, from Abu Ayyub, who attributed it to the Prophet, with the same wording. Ahmad (5/414–415) and al-Tabarani (4/221/4089) recorded it.
I say: Abu Muhammad al-Hadrami is unknown, as al-Dhahabi stated. Al-Bukhari cited this hadith in suspended form in his Sahih (11/171—Fath), but with the wording: “He would be like one who had freed a slave from among the descendants of Ishmael.” This too is anomalous.
Al-Qasim Abu Abd al-Rahman corroborated it from Abu Ayyub, with similar wording. Al-Tabarani recorded it (1/205/1–2). I say: Its chain is good for corroborative reports and supporting evidence.
Abdullah ibn Ya'ish also corroborated it from Abu Ayyub with similar wording, except that he said: “Whoever says, after performing the dawn prayer: ‘There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah ...’; and if he says it after the sunset prayer, the same applies.” Ibn Hibban (2341), Ahmad (5/415), and al-Tabarani (4/222/223) recorded it. Its chain is good, as al-Hafiz stated.
Abu al-Ward ibn Abi Burdah also corroborated it from Abu Ayyub’s servant, from Abu Ayyub, with the same wording; it includes an incident. Al-Tabarani recorded it (1/199/1). Abu Ayyub’s servant was named Aflah, and he was trustworthy.
