Muslimah ibn ʿAlī al-Khushani corroborated him from al-Dhimārī with the same wording. Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Shāmiyyīn (p. 175).
It also has a supporting report from Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ, attributed to the Prophet, with the same wording. Al-Haythamī said (5/284): “Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in al-Awsaṭ, and its chain includes Suwayd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, who is weak.”
Najdah ibn Nufayʿ narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās, may Allah be pleased with them, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, called a tribe of Arabs to mobilize, but they were reluctant. Then the following was revealed: “If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment.” He said: Their punishment was that rain was withheld from them. Al-Bayhaqī recorded it. Najdah is unknown, as stated in al-Taqrīb.
I then found the hadith in al-Ṭabarānī’s Musnad al-Shāmiyyīn. He recorded it (p. 53) through ʿAlī ibn Baḥr: al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, from Makhūl, from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, with the same wording.
I say: This is another chain of transmission for al-Walīd ibn Muslim, differing from the first route mentioned above through the various narrations. The narrator from him, ʿAlī ibn Baḥr, is trustworthy. Thus, if he preserved it accurately, al-Walīd ibn Muslim has two chains of transmission. He was corroborated by ʿUmar ibn Saʿīd al-Dimashqī, who said: Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Tanūkhī narrated to us. ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd recorded it in al-Muntakhab (1432). This is further supported by the fact that Abū Ḥalbas narrated it from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwān, from Abū Hurayrah, with the same wording. It was recorded in Musnad al-Shāmiyyīn (p. 157).
