I say:
It is acceptable for use as a corroborating report and supporting parallel transmission, for although Jabir ibn ʿAmr and Shaddad ibn Saʿid are both narrators cited by Muslim, their retention was somewhat weak. Al-Mundhiri said in al-Targhib (2/236): “Al-Tabarani reported it in al-Kabir and al-Awsat, as did al-Bayhaqi; the narrators in al-Tabarani’s chain are relied upon in the Sahih.” Al-Haythami said (10/80): “Al-Tabarani reported it in al-Awsat and al-Kabir, and the narrators of both are narrators of the Sahih.” I say: Some of its corroborating reports, from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah and others, have already preceded; see nos. 74–80.
2558 — “The best jihad in the sight of Allah on the Day of Resurrection is that of those who engage in the front rank and do not turn their faces away until they are killed. They will luxuriate in the lofty chambers of Paradise, while your Lord looks upon them. When your Lord laughs at a people, they will face no reckoning.”
Al-Tabarani reported it in al-Awsat (2/227, University photocopy), saying: Ali ibn Saʿid related to us; Saʿid ibn Yahya ibn Saʿid al-Umawi related to us; my uncle, ʿAnbasah ibn Saʿid, related to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Mubarak related to us from al-Awzaʿi, from ʿUrwah ibn Ruwaym, from Quzʿah ibn Yahya, from Abu Saʿid al-Khudri, as a hadith of the Prophet. He said: “No one narrated it from al-Awzaʿi except Ibn al-Mubarak, and no one narrated it from him except ʿAnbasah; Saʿid ibn Yahya alone transmitted it.”
