on al-Darawardi’s narration. I then found for it a strong corroborating report through Muhammad ibn Jaʿfar, from al-ʿAlaʾ, through the same chain. Al-Tabari recorded it in al-Tahdhib (Musnad ʿUmar—19/25), so the hadith is authentic, praise be to Allah.
The first part of it has another chain, related by al-Tabari (20/26) and al-Asbahani (72/2) from Ibn ʿAjlan: Saʿid narrated to me from Abu Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet. The second half of the hadith has another chain from Abu Hurayrah with similar wording. It was recorded by al-Bukhari and Muslim, as well as others; and it has a supporting narration from al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwam, recorded by al-Bukhari and others. It is cited in Takhrij al-Halal (157).
The first sentence also has supporting narrations from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn ʿAwf himself, recorded by Ahmad (1/193); from Abu Kabshah al-Anmari, likewise recorded by him (4/231) and by al-Tirmidhi, who authenticated it; it is cited in al-Mishkah (5287); and from Umm Salamah, in whose chain is Yunus ibn Khabbab, who is weak. It is cited in al-Rawd al-Nadir (1192).
2544 — “All of it remained except its shoulder.”
Al-Tirmidhi (2/77) and Ahmad (6/50) recorded it from Yahya ibn Saʿid, from Sufyan, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Maysarah, from ʿAʾishah: They had slaughtered a sheep, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, “What has remained of it?” She replied, “Nothing has remained of it except its shoulder.” He said: … and then mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhi said:
