It also has a supporting report from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah. It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim, as well as others, and is documented in the other book under hadith no. 6199. A version recorded by al-Bukhari (7449), through al-Aʿraj from Abu Hurayrah, has the wording: “... and He will create for Hell ...” in place of “... Paradise.” This is undoubtedly an anomalous narration, since it contradicts the first route from Abu Hurayrah as well as the hadith of Anas.
Al-Hafiz Abu al-Hasan al-Qabisi—ʿAli ibn Muhammad ibn Khalaf al-Qayrawani (d. 403 AH)—alluded to this. A number of leading scholars said that it is a transposition, while Ibn al-Qayyim stated decisively that it was an error. He argued that Allah has informed us that Hell will be filled with Iblis and his followers. Imam al-Bulqini rejected it as well, citing Allah’s saying: “And your Lord wrongs no one.” Al-Hafiz mentioned this in Fath al-Bari (13/437).
I say: This anomaly in this hadith is one of dozens of examples demonstrating the ignorance of certain newcomers who blindly champion Sahih al-Bukhari, and likewise Sahih Muslim, and assert categorically that everything in them is authentic. Opposing them are certain writers who attach no weight to the two Sahihs and reject whatever hadiths they contain that do not accord with their intellects and desires, such as al-Saqqaf, Hassan, al-Ghazali, and others. I have refuted both groups in more than one place.
