“He was rejected in hadith.” Ibn Hibban mentioned him in al-Thiqat and said: “His hadith are sound.” Hammad ibn Salamah also corroborated it from Asim, with similar wording. Al-Mundhiri graded its chain of transmission good (1/138), and al-Haythami followed him (1/299). It is referenced in al-Rawd al-Nadir, no. 611.
2521 — “He would instruct her—that is, Aisha—to seek treatment for the evil eye.”
Muslim (7/17) and Ahmad (6/63) narrated it through Misar: Mabad ibn Khalid narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Shaddad, from Aisha, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would … and he then mentioned it.
Sufyan narrated it from Mabad with the wording: “He would instruct me to seek treatment for the evil eye.” Muslim narrated it. Ibn Majah (2/356), al-Hakim (4/412), and Ahmad (6/63 and 138) also narrated it through this route, with similar wording. Al-Hakim said: “It is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, but neither of them recorded it.” Al-Dhahabi agreed with him. Both were mistaken in claiming that Muslim had not included it, and likewise in claiming that al-Bukhari had not included it, for I found it in his work as well through this route (10/164).
2522 — “The person who cast the evil eye would be instructed to perform ablution, after which the afflicted person would bathe with its water.”
Abu Dawud (2/153), and al-Bayhaqi from him (9/351), narrated: Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us; Jarir narrated to us from al-Amash, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad, from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, who said: He then mentioned it. This is an authentic chain of transmission according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs. Al-Hafiz made no comment on it in al-Fath (10/164).
