been corroborated by Abū al-Mughīrah in al-Dārimī’s collection. He also overlooked the corroborating transmission of Sufyān—namely Ibn ʿUyaynah—mentioned by al-Bayhaqī. The wording of Abū al-Mughīrah’s report is: from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ḥarmalah, who said: A man came to Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib to bid him farewell before going on Hajj or ʿUmrah. Saʿīd said to him, “Do not leave until you have prayed, for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said...” and he mentioned the hadith.
The man said, “My companions are at al-Ḥarrah!” Then he left. Saʿīd continued to mention him until he was informed that the man had fallen from his mount and broken his thigh. I say: Its chain is an authentic mursal chain.
2519 — “You have lied. He will not enter it—that is, the Fire—for he witnessed Badr and al-Ḥudaybiyyah.” That is, Ḥāṭib ibn Abī Baltaʿah, may Allah be pleased with him.
Muslim (7/169), Ibn Ḥibbān (9/125/6076), and Aḥmad (3/349) recorded it through the route of al-Layth ibn Saʿd, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir: a slave of Ḥāṭib came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, complaining about Ḥāṭib. He said, “O Messenger of Allah, Ḥāṭib will certainly enter the Fire!” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, replied with the above words.
Ibn Jurayj corroborated him, saying: Abū al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jābir say—and he mentioned the hadith. Aḥmad (3/325) recorded it: Ḥajjāj related to us; Ibn Jurayj related to us through this chain.
Note: Imam Ibn al-Wazīr al-Yamānī cited this hadith in meaning in his valuable book, al-Rawḍ al-Bāsim fī al-Dhabb ʿan Sunnat Abī al-Qāsim (“The Smiling Garden in Defence of the Sunnah of Abu al-Qasim”) (p. 64, al-Munīriyyah edition), saying:
