Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

2502 — “If you wish, I shall supplicate to Allah for you and He will heal you; or, if you wish, you may bear it patiently and no reckoning will be held against you.”

Ibn Hibban narrated it in Mawarid (708), al-Bazzar in his Zawa'id (83), al-Asbahani in al-Targhib (59/1), and al-Baghawi in Sharh al-Sunnah (no. 1424), through several routes from Muhammad ibn Amr, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, afflicted with a bout of madness, and said: “O Messenger of Allah, supplicate to Allah to heal me.” He said the above. She replied: “Rather, I shall bear it patiently, and no reckoning will be held against me.”

I say: This is a good chain of transmission. Al-Hafiz made no comment on it (10/115).

It has a corroborating report from the hadith of Ibn Abbas with similar wording, adding: “She said: ‘I become uncovered, so supplicate to Allah that I do not become uncovered.’ So he supplicated for her.” It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim, as well as others, including Ibn Abi al-Dunya in Illness and Expiations (87/1) and al-Baghawi in Sharh al-Sunnah (1423).

The hadith also has another route from Abu Hurayrah, who said: Fever came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: “Send me to the most beloved of your family to you.” So he sent it to the Ansar, and it remained with them for six days and their nights. This became severe for them, so he came to them in their dwellings, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, began entering one dwelling after another, and one house after another, supplicating to Allah for their well-being. When he returned, a woman from among them followed him and said: “By Him Who sent you with the truth, I am indeed from the Ansar, and my father is indeed from the Ansar. So supplicate to Allah for me as you supplicated for the Ansar.” He said: “Whatever you wish: if you wish, I shall supplicate to Allah to grant you well-being; or, if you wish, you may bear it patiently, and Paradise will be yours.”
