“Authentic according to Muslim’s criteria.”
I say: It is as he said, and al-Dhahabī made no comment on it. Hishām ibn ʿAmmār also corroborated him: Asad ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Sulaym ibn Ḥayyān narrated to us, from Abū al-Mutawakkil al-Nājī, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, with a similar report. Ibn Ḥibbān recorded it (2246). I say: Its narrators are reliable, though Hishām ibn ʿAmmār has some weakness because he was susceptible to prompting.
2489 — “He used to be guarded until this verse was revealed: ‘And Allah will protect you from the people.’ (1) The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—then put his head out of the tent and said to them: ‘O people, depart, for Allah has protected me.’”
It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (2/175), Ibn Jarīr (6/199), and al-Ḥākim (2/313), through the route of al-Ḥārith ibn ʿUbayd, from Saʿīd al-Jurayrī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: He then mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: “A singular hadith.” Some narrated this hadith from al-Jurayrī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq, who said: “The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—used to be guarded …” They did not mention ʿĀʾishah in it.
I say: This is more authentic, because al-Ḥārith ibn ʿUbayd—Abū Qudāmah al-Iyādī—had weakness in his memory. Al-Ḥāfiẓ indicated this when he described him as: “Truthful, but prone to error.”
