we would have said that his assertion that a weak hadith may be acted upon with respect to meritorious deeds had led him to do so. But how could that be, when he did not cite it as a hadith attributed to the Prophet, even a weak one? And how could it be, when it contradicts the authentic hadith? Is this not one of the evil consequences of the aforementioned assertion, that it leads them to act even upon material that has no basis in hadith? Indeed! Is there anyone who will take heed?!
2460 — “The sun will draw near until sweat reaches the middle of the ear. While they are in that state, they will seek relief from Adam, but he will say: ‘I am not the one for this.’ Then they will go to Moses, and he will say the same. Then they will go to Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and he will intercede among all creation. He will then proceed until he takes hold of the ring of Paradise. On that Day, Allah will raise him to the Praised Station, and all those assembled will praise him.”
Ibn Khuzaymah narrated it in al-Tawḥīd (p. 199): Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥakam narrated to us; he said: My father and Shuʿayb informed us; they said: Al-Layth narrated to us from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Abī Jaʿfar, who said: I heard Ḥamzah ibn ʿAbd Allāh say: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it. I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of both al-Bukhārī and Muslim, apart from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥakam and his father; both were trustworthy Basran jurists.
I say: This is a rare hadith concerning the Praised Station, showing that it is his exclusive intercession, peace and blessings be upon him. It is the most authentic hadith I have found concerning it. There are other hadiths as well; see the two preceding hadiths (2369 and 2370) and Takhrīj al-Sunnah (784, 785, and 789). Al-Haythamī said (10/371): “Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in al-Awsaṭ through Muṭṭalib ibn Shuʿayb from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ,”
