2456 — “The Day of Resurrection will be as long as the period between noon and the mid-afternoon prayer.”
Al-Hakim recorded it (1/84), and al-Daylami (4/337) narrated it from him, through Suwayd ibn Nasr, who said: Ibn al-Mubarak related to us, from Ma‘mar, from Qatadah, from Zurarah ibn Awfa, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with this wording. He said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic, meeting the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim if Suwayd ibn Nasr preserved it correctly—especially since he is trustworthy and reliable—for he informed us …” He then cited it through the route of ‘Abdan: Abdullah related to us, from Ma‘mar, as a report attributed to Abu Hurayrah, with the wording: “The Day of Resurrection, for the believers, will be as long as …” the hadith.
Al-Dhahabi agreed with him in what he said. I consider the Companion-attributed version to carry the ruling of a report attributed to the Prophet; indeed, it is clearer and more explicit. And Allah knows best. However, Suwayd does not meet the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim, despite being trustworthy; he was a transmitter of Ibn al-Mubarak.
2457 — “The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, led us in one of the prayers [in another narration: the noon prayer]. He then stood after two units [without sitting], and the people glorified Allah to alert him. [When he had fully risen, he continued and did not return] [and the people stood with him]. He continued until [when] he had finished his prayer and nothing remained except the final salutation [while the people awaited his salutation], he made two prostrations [declaring Allah’s greatness at each prostration, while seated] before giving the final salutation [then he gave the final salutation]. [The people prostrated with him, in compensation for the sitting he had forgotten.]”
This hadith is one narrated by Abdullah ibn Buhaynah, may Allah Most High be pleased with him, and transmitted from him by Abd al-Rahman al-A‘raj, may Allah Most High have mercy on him. There are three chains of transmission from him:
