2451 — “Some people from among those who profess tawhid (the oneness of God) will be punished in the Fire until they become charcoal therein. Then mercy will reach them, and they will be brought out and cast at the gates of Paradise.” He said: “The people of Paradise will sprinkle water over them, whereupon they will grow as vegetation grows amid the debris borne by a flood; then they will enter Paradise.”
Ahmad (3/391) and al-Tirmidhi (2600) recorded it through Abu Muʿawiyah, from al-Aʿmash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said this. Al-Tirmidhi said: “A good, authentic hadith.”
I say: It meets the criteria of Muslim. The hadith has a fuller supporting report from Abu Saʿid al-Khudri, recorded by Muslim and others, as previously mentioned under no. 1551.
2452 — “A sacrifice is offered for a boy, but no blood should be put on his head.”
Ibn Majah (2/281), al-Tabarani in al-Awsat (1/33/2), and Ibn Mandah in al-Maʿrifah (2/35/1) recorded it from Abdullah ibn Wahb, who said: Amr ibn al-Harith informed me, from Ayyub ibn Musa, who informed him that Yazid ibn Abd al-Muzani informed him [from his father] that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said this. Al-Tabarani said: “No one narrated it from Ayyub except Amr, and Ibn Wahb alone narrated it from him.”
I say: All three are trustworthy, but Yazid ibn Abdullah al-Muzani is unknown; the biographical authorities mention no narrator from him other than Ayyub. Nevertheless, Ibn Hibban deemed him trustworthy (5/543)! The hadith does, however, have a supporting report from Aisha, who said: “In the pre-Islamic period, when they offered the birth sacrifice for a child, they would dye a piece of cotton with the blood of the sacrifice; then, when they shaved his head…”
