that what befell you …” the hadith continues: “Were you to die upon other than this, you would enter the Fire.” Its chain of transmission is authentic. It was transmitted by a number of the compilers of the Sunan and Musnad collections, as well as others, and is cited in al-Mishkat (115) and Takhrij al-Sunnah (245).
The tenth is from Anas, in a report attributed to the Prophet: “No servant finds the sweetness of faith until he knows that what befell him …” the hadith. Ibn Abi ‘Asim transmitted it (247) from him with a good chain of transmission.
2440 — “Let none of you burden himself for his guest with what he cannot afford.”
Abu Nu‘aym transmitted it in Akhbar Asbahan (1/56), al-Khatib in al-Tarikh (10/205), and al-Daylami (4/2/197), from Ibn Lal. Both of them narrate by way of Muhammad ibn al-Faraj: Yunus ibn Muhammad al-Mu’addib narrated to us; Husayn ibn al-Rammas narrated to us; he said: I heard Abd al-Rahman ibn Mas‘ud, Sulaym ibn Rabah, and Zakariyya ibn Ishaq relating from Salman, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he mentioned it. The wording is that of al-Khatib, who said: “This is how he stated it: Sulaym ibn Rabah and Zakariyya ibn Ishaq from Salman.”
I say: Ibn Lal did not mention the two of them in the chain of transmission. Al-Hakim likewise transmitted it (4/123) through Husayn ibn Muhammad, who is al-Marwazi, from Husayn ibn al-Rammas, with similar wording.
I say: Its chain of transmission is weak, containing the unknown narrator Abd al-Rahman ibn Mas‘ud, whom I have been unable to identify. In al-Mustadrak, he appears as al-‘Abdi, but I found no biographical entry for him under that name. It may be that he was Abd al-Rahman ibn Mas‘ud
