“that he passed by some people who had set up a live chicken as a target and were shooting at it. He said: ‘The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed those who mutilate animals.’” Ahmad (2/13) transmitted it, and its chain is authentic.
2432 — “Military expeditions will not cease attacking this House until an army among them is swallowed up by the earth.”
Al-Nasa’i (2/32) and al-Hakim (4/430) transmitted it through Muhammad ibn Idris Abu Hatim al-Razi, who said: ‘Umar ibn Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us: my father narrated to us, from Mis‘ar, who said: Talhah ibn Musarrif informed me, from Abu Muslim al-Agharr, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.’
Al-Hakim said: “A singular, authentic hadith. I know of no one who narrated it other than ‘Umar ibn Hafs ibn Ghiyath, from whom Imam Abu Hatim narrated it.” Al-Dhahabi concurred with him. I say: It is authentic according to Muslim’s criteria, except for Abu Hatim, who was an imam, a hafiz, and a critical hadith scholar.
Abu Nu‘aym also transmitted it in The Adornment of the Saints (7/244) by another route from ‘Umar ibn Hafs, with the same chain. Suhaym corroborated him, narrating that he heard Abu Hurayrah relate something similar. Al-Nasa’i transmitted it through a chain whose narrators are known and trustworthy, apart from Suhaym; Ibn ‘Ammar and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy.
It also has a supporting report from Hafsah, daughter of ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with her, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with a more complete wording. Muslim (8/167), al-Nasa’i, Ahmad (6/336–337), and others transmitted it from ‘Abd Allah ibn Safwan, from her.
