“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to his wives during the Farewell Pilgrimage: ...” Then he cited it. I say: Its narrators are trustworthy—the narrators of Muslim, apart from Waqid ibn Abi Waqid. Al-Hafiz said: “It is said that he was a Companion; and it is said that he belonged to the third generation [of narrators].”
- As for the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, Ibn Abi Dhiʾb reports it from Salih, the freedman of al-Tawʾamah, from him. It was recorded by Ahmad (2/446 and 6/324), Ibn Saʿd in al-Tabaqat (8/55 and 207–208), and al-Baghawi in Hadith ʿAli ibn al-Jaʿd (12/127/2). - As for the hadith of Umm Salamah, Muhammad ibn Khalid al-Hanafi narrated to us: ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar al-Makhzumi narrated to us from ʿUthman al-Akhnasi, from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Saʿd ibn Yarbuʿ, from her. She said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to us during the Farewell Pilgrimage: “It is only this pilgrimage; then sit upon the mats in your homes.” It was recorded by Abu Yaʿla (folio 314/2; library photocopy).
I say: Its narrators are trustworthy, apart from Muhammad ibn Khalid al-Hanafi. Al-Hafiz said: “Truthful, but makes mistakes.” Al-Mundhiri said in al-Targhib (2/135):
