Al-Haythami said in Majmaʿ al-Zawaʾid (3/303): “Al-Bazzar narrated it, and its chain includes ʿAbd Allah ibn Saʿid al-Maqburi, who is weak.”
Concerning the hadith of Anas, he said: “Abu Yaʿla narrated it, and it is weak through all of its chains.” Yet the hadith is authentic, for its various elements have been reported separately from Abu Hurayrah in several hadiths:
First: Salih ibn Abi al-Akhdar narrated from Ibn Shihab, from Ibn al-Musayyib, from him: “The Messenger of Allah ordered ʿAbd Allah ibn Hudhafah to proclaim throughout the days of Mina: ‘Indeed, do not fast on these days, for they are days of eating, drinking, and the remembrance of Allah.’” Al-Tahawi and Ahmad recorded it (2/513 and 535). Ahmad and others also recorded it through another chain, and it has numerous corroborating reports, whose documentation has previously been given under no. (1282).
Second: From al-Aʿraj, from him: “The Messenger of Allah prohibited fasting on two days: the day of Eid al-Adha and the day of Eid al-Fitr.” Al-Bukhari, Muslim, al-Bayhaqi (4/297), and others recorded it. It has corroborating reports which I have documented in al-Irwaʾ (944).
Third: From Abu Salih, from him, attributed to the Prophet: “Do not fast on Friday, unless you fast a day before it or a day after it.” Al-Tirmidhi and others recorded it, and Muslim recorded a similar report from him through another chain. Both have been cited above under nos. (980 and 981).
Fourth: From Abu Salamah, from him, attributed to the Prophet: “Do not precede Ramadan by one or two days, unless a man has been observing a regular fast, in which case he may fast it.”
