2398 — “He prohibited fasting on six days of the year: the three Days of Tashriq, the day of Eid al-Fitr, the day of Eid al-Adha, and Friday when it is singled out from among the other days.”
Al-Tayalisi recorded it in his Musnad (1/191): al-Rabiʿ narrated to us from Yazid al-Raqashi, from Anas, attributing it to the Prophet. I say: This is a weak chain of transmission, for al-Raqashi is weak. Al-Rabiʿ—who is Ibn Subayh—was truthful but had poor retention.
Al-Tahawi also recorded it through him in Sharh al-Maʿani (1/429 and 430), but he did not mention Friday or Eid al-Fitr. Al-Tahawi and Abu Yaʿla (3/1016) likewise recorded it through al-Rabiʿ and Marzuq Abu ʿAbd Allah al-Shami; both said: “Yazid al-Raqashi narrated to us,” reporting the same hadith. Regarding this Marzuq, Ibn Maʿin said: “There is no harm in him,” and Ibn Hibban included him in al-Thiqat.
The hadith has corroborating reports. ʿAbd Allah ibn Saʿid narrated from his father—or, it was said, from his grandfather—from Abu Hurayrah, attributing a similar report to the Prophet. However, it mentions, “the final day of Shaʿban immediately preceding Ramadan,” in place of “Friday.” Al-Bazzar recorded it (p. 104, Zawaʾid), as did Ibn ʿAdi (1/213–214) and al-Bayhaqi (4/208). Al-Bayhaqi said: “ʿAbd Allah ibn Saʿid al-Maqburi is not strong.” That is what he said, though the man’s condition is worse than he indicated, for he is abandoned, as stated in al-Taqrib. Ibn ʿAdi said: “The weakness in most of what he narrates is evident.”
