It was also narrated by Baqiyyah, from Buḥayr ibn Sa‘d, from Khalid ibn Ma‘dan, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from Abu Tha‘labah, with similar wording, adding: “A tethered animal used as a target is not lawful.” It was recorded by al-Nasa’i (2/199/210) and Ahmad (4/194).
- From Jabir, attributed to the Prophet: “And He prohibited tethered animals used as targets.” It was recorded by Ahmad (3/323).
I say: Its narrators meet Muslim’s criteria.
-
From al-‘Irbad ibn Sariyah, attributed to the Prophet, with wording like Jabir’s hadith. It was recorded by Ahmad (4/127). Its narrators are trustworthy, apart from Umm Habibah bint al-‘Irbad, who is acceptable.
-
From Abu Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, with wording like Jabir’s hadith. It was recorded by Ahmad (2/366).
I say: Its chain of transmission is good.
- From Samurah, who said: “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade that an animal be restrained until it dies, and that its meat be eaten when it has been killed in this manner.” It was recorded by al-‘Uqayli in al-Du‘afa’ through al-Hasan, from him. He said: “Sound hadiths have been reported concerning the prohibition of killing an animal in this manner, but as for the prohibition of eating it, it is known only through this report.”
I say: That is what he said, but it is refuted by the hadith under discussion and the hadith of Ibn ‘Abbas (no. 1). And al-Hafiz said:
